Mission Statement

Cinema Learning Challenge’s mission is to inspire and connect students to careers and opportunities through educational films and interactive learning through field trips and events that support National Academic Content Standards.

The Cinema Learning Challenge (CLC) was created in 2017 and has served thousands of students in Clark County, Nevada, the fifth-largest school district in the United States. CLC has provided Giant Screen films and hands-on educational activities, led by educators and experts, in Nevada theaters. Now this successful program has gone virtual and worldwide!

Cinema Learning Challenge Online offers Virtual Field Trip experiences that combine museum-quality, educational films with online, hands-on learning activities led by experts and accredited educators.

Films are streamed through a secure portal to computers, SmartTVs or WiFi-enabled devices. Participants just log in to the platform and click a link to watch an impactful documentary film.

Hands-on activities are led online by experts through Zoom Professional or GoToMeeting, allowing for real-time interaction between educators and learners.

Our Virtual Field Trips are available seven days a week. We recommend booking a minimum of two to three weeks in advance, because extra time is needed for procuring supplies and scheduling our expert presenters.

A variety of excellent films and hands-on programs are available for ages ranging from preschool to Grade 12, covering topics ranging from nature to ancient Egypt to space … and beyond.

Enjoy a film in the classroom, at a group meeting room or in the comfort of your own home. Virtual Field Trips can take place anywhere in the world!

Our films support National Academic Content Standards and always include free, comprehensive Educator Guides and resources filled with activities related to the film for use in the classroom or home.

Our partners are award winners and industry leaders who enthusiastically share their passion for learning.

CLC Online brings the impact of giant screen films and the excitement of interactive education to students, groups and families, with the goal of inspiring the next generation of scientists, inventors, explorers and lifelong learners.

CLC is a proud member of Connecting Hands Offering Lifelong Learning Adventures (CHOLLA) and has received the support of the Clark County, Nevada, School District and Career Technology Education administrative department.

Creator of Cinema Learning Challenge

Tina Ratterman

The CLC Program was created by Tina Ratterman, founder and president of BIG & Digital, LLC, a worldwide distributor of films for museums and planetariums since 2009.

Ratterman wanted the museum-quality educational films, made for Giant Screens, IMAX® Theaters and Domes, to be available in Las Vegas for students and families as an enjoyable experience of inspiration and life-long learning.

With the support of staff and volunteers, and Eclipse Theaters as our Host Theater for Field Trips in 2018-2019, we served over 1400 Students. Many of these were middle school students brought to the Program from the Clark County School District’s Career Technology Education Office to connect students to careers and company’s with a focus on Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). Our films and hands-on activities provide a unique and engaging Field Trip experience.

The CLC has grown for the 2019-2020 School Year with a second location, Galaxy Theatres at Boulevard Mall. This new location is also the official Public Show Venue for our films to be seen in the Sony Digital Cinema.

We thank the teachers, administrators, students and community partners for the support and look forward to working to support education and life-long learning in Las Vegas and beyond.
