A World Space Week Event!

Enjoy the movie Space Next and join Janet Ivey of Janet’s Planet for an out-of-this-world activity! You’ll get lively instruction and a fun, challenging item to make.

The activity is: Build a Lunar Lander! Use what you know and can investigate about gravity, motion, forces and a target of your choosing (the Moon, Mars or beyond!) to design and build a lander that will protect two “astronauts” when they touch down. Just as engineers had to develop solutions for landing different kinds of vehicles on the Moon and Mars, you’ll follow the engineering design process to design and build a shock-absorbing system out of simple materials and improve your design based on the results of your test landings.

This activity is great for ages 11 to 13. A supply list will be sent to participants in advance, so please register for this event today!

About Space Next

The journey to reach the stars began with our earliest dreams of flying and led to landing on the Moon and sending a probe to Pluto. But that’s only the beginning. Space Next offers a glimpse into tomorrow, exploring the possibilities of what is to come by way of private space developments and national space programs. The result is a mesmerizing display of interplanetary excellence sure to inspire a generation of explorers, scientists and dreamers! Come discover what’s next. Suitable for all ages.

The event begins at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET.
